Youths spending their money in Niles to find something to do

To the editor:
Bethel College’s community assessment study did show that there is a need for a senior center in Dowagiac, but their study also showed there is a need for a community center as well.
It also showed that there was a need for things for young people to do and places for them to go.
Someone in the meeting asked the representative that in their time in Dowagiac did they see anywhere that could be used as a community center and the representative said no, why ask him? That’s not his job to find a place for a center.
I can think of three empty buildings right now.
I agree with the person who wrote the letter Friday we do need a senior center and a community center, but we also need some youth activities, like our senior citizens our youth are having to go to Niles just to have fun, spending money on gas for the 20+ mile round trip and spending money in Niles that could be being spent here.
So with the Higher Ups being so out of touch with reality, I am not expecting to see any of these things happen.
