Lake Michigan College to offer publishing, home-based business classes Wednesday

Lake Michigan College will offer classes on publishing and creating a home-based business as part of its Community Education program. These classes will be conducted at the College’s Napier Avenue Campus in Benton Harbor.

• “A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Published” – Wednesday, 3 to 5 p.m., C-105.

This workshop will provide attendees with advice on how to become a published freelance writer. Taught by a successful, published writer, the course will cover how to find the right publisher or agent, format a manuscript, write a query letter and bypass common stumbling blocks. Cost is $39 plus $20 materials fee payable to the instructor.
• “Meet the Publisher” – Wednesday, 5 to 6 p.m., C-105.

In this class, participants will learn about the pros and cons of traditional publishing and self-publishing options. The class will also cover publishers and/or agents who are interested in specific types of work. Professional critiques of in-progress manuscripts will be available for an additional fee. Cost is $19 plus $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.

• “How to Cash in with a Successful Home Based Business” – Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., C-210.

This class will show participants how to turn their talents and hobbies into profits by starting a home-based business. Topics to be covered include learning about legalities, taxes, marketing and ideas for home businesses. Cost is $39 plus $20 materials fee payable to the instructor.

• “Make Money with a Home Based Typing/Word Processing Business” – Wednesday, 8 to 9 p.m., C-210.

Participants in this session must have attended the Cash in with a Successful Home-Based Business course before this class. This session will cover secrets to generating profits in the typing/word processing business, along with equipment choices, the five major typing markets, pricing, marketing and ideas for home businesses. Cost is $19 plus $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.
