Passport hours extended Tuesday

CASSOPOLIS – Barbara Runyon, Cass County Clerk/Register of Deeds, announced that her office will have extended hours on Tuesday, April 27, for travelers who need passports.

Hours will be 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. To apply for a U.S. passport, you must provide the following:

• Proof of U.S. citizenship (certified birth certificate, naturalization certificate or a previous U.S. passport.)

• Proof of identity (valid driver’s license, state identification card, unexpired U.S. passport, government or military ID.)

• Photographs – two duplicate 2-inch by 2-inch photos with a white or off-white background.  The Clerk/Register’s Office provides these photos at a cost of $10.

• Passport fee – must be in check or money order form and made payable to the U.S. Department of State.  The fee for ages 16 and over is $75 and the passport is valid for 10 years. The fee for children ages 15 and under is $60 and the passport is valid for five years.

• Processing fee of $25 may be paid by cash, check (payable to the Cass County Clerk/Register) or by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover).

• Passport Cards are also available for travel by land and sea crossing between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean only.  The cost is $45 for adults and $35 for minors. It is important to note that a valid passport is required for children of every age. Persons age 15 and under must be accompanied by both parents listed on the child’s birth certificate.
