An Andrews University student was killed in a three-vehicle accident Thursday evening.
Denroy Black, 46, a native of Jamaica, was pronounced dead at the scene at Garr and Shawnee roads.
Berrien Springs Oronoko Township officers were dispatched to the intersection of Garr and Shawnee roads for a personal injury accident at 4:10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed three vehicles that were involved in an accident. After further investigation, BSOTPD officers, along with Berrien County sheriff’s deputies, were able to determine that Black was traveling northbound on Garr Road when he failed to stop for the stop sign at Shawnee Road. A pickup truck traveling eastbound struck the driver’s side of Denroy’s car, sending his vehicle into another car waiting to turn south onto Garr.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles to treat facial injuries. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle refused medical treatment at the scene of the traffic crash.
