Cass County Road Commission announces projects, summer hours

The Cass County Road Commission will move to summer hours effective May 3. Hours will be from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday with offices closed on Friday. Normal hours, which are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, will resume Oct. 4.

The four 10-hour days provides a savings to the road commission’s budget during paving season. The longer days during paving season allows crews to finish a job in one day rather than having to return to that location for a second day. The four-day week also results in less use of diesel fuel.

The following streets and roads will receive attention from road crews during the 2010 paving season:

No reversions planned for this year
Road crews, which reverted Pioneer Road from asphalt to gravel on Dec. 7, 2010, will return to the road in the next two weeks to add more gravel and reshape the crown of the road, said Louis Csokasy, road commission manager.

There are no plans to revert any gravel roads this year; however, because of the continued reduction in state funding, the commission will review the total county road system during the 2010-11 winter months to determine what roads should be targeted for reversion in the future, Csokasy said. The local roads are maintained through a cost-sharing program between the townships and the road commission.
