Brandywine Elementary celebrated “March is Reading Month” with the theme “Investigate a Good Book.” Darlene Jackson of the Niles District Library introduced the theme as part of the fine arts night at the beginning of the month.
Students read and kept track of their reading minutes for the month. At a special awards assembly, grade level high point readers were awarded prize packets with coupons from the community celebrating their work.
Top level grade readers were Ashley Syumski, sixth grade; Kaytlyn Metz, fifth grade; Alexis Kozuch, fourth grade; and Searra Romanski, third grade.
Special readers for March were state Rep. Sharon Tyler, third grade; superintendent John Jarpe, fourth grade; Marine Sgt. Paul Williams, fifth grade; and trooper Rob Herbstrieth of the Michigan State Police, sixth grade.
