Berrien Regional Education Service Agency’s (RESA) Superintendent Jeff Siegel has announced his retirement, effective June 30.
“When I first started working for the District 37 years ago (when it was called Berrien County ISD), we only had about 50 employees, one computer which filled an entire room and no federal statute addressing the provision of special education services,” Siegel said. “Today, we employ 300 staff members who each have their own computer, who are all highly qualified and are the very best at what they do. Being a part of the growth of this organization and, especially helping to expand the types and amount of services we are able to offer to families, makes me feel very proud. I am leaving Berrien RESA with a full heart, knowing that our accomplishments will carry on through the talents of the staff and that quality programs will continue to be offered well into the future through the visionary leadership of our board of education.”
Siegel took the superintendent post in 2002 after the retirement of Jerry Reimann. Prior to becoming superintendent, Siegel served the district as a school psychologist and director of special education.
Siegel’s resignation is expected to be received by the Berrien RESA Board of Education at their regular meeting Wednesday. It is anticipated that the board will contact a search firm to assist them in finding Siegel’s successor.
