The Niles Garden Club held its April meeting Tuesday at the Law Enforcement Complex.
Refreshments were served at 12:30 p.m. followed by a business meeting led by Wendie Stephenson, president of the club.
Jay Clancy gave the treasurer’s report and the minutes of the March meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter. Judy Rossow brought everyone up to date on making glass totems the club will do on April 30. She suggested certain items that will be needed and passed out a sheet of recommendations. Carol Noid and Judy Rossow also passed out the bulb sale brochures and the club will start taking orders. Anyone interested in buying bulbs should contact Judy Rossow at (574) 289-2810 or Carol Noid at (269) 684-3627.
The plant sale will be May 15 at the Farmers Market area of Riverfront Park. It will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Four Flags Garden Club will also be selling plants at the same time and location. There will be plants from members’ gardens and plants from the Welcome to Niles Park. These are locally grown plants that are good for our area.
Everyone is encouraged to come out. A time was set for the members to dig plants and prepare them for sale from the park. Also, dates were set for spring cleaning of the park.
The district meeting will be May 7 in Kalamazoo and the state convention will be May 23 in Battle Creek. The meeting was adjourned and the program began. The program was “Your Greatest and/or Your Worse Experience in Gardening.” Everyone participated with their personal experience and was enjoyed by all.
The next meeting will be May 4 at Fernwood with the program by Advanced Master Gardener and member of the Niles Garden Club, Nancy Clough. If you have any questions or interest in the Niles Garden Club, call Wendie Stephenson at 262-0034 or check out its Web site at www.nilesgar denclubn9sbv.net.
