Recycle electronics at collection event April 14

Think about reducing, reusing and recycling your old electronics when you spring clean this year. Many used computers, computer equipment, televisions, VCRs, desktop printers, fax machines, scanners, radios, stereos, speakers, cell phones, telephones, DVD players, video game players, cameras, microwave ovens and other consumer electronics can be refurbished and used again or recycled.
Berrien County residents, businesses, and institutions can bring electronics to Andrews University in Berrien Springs on Wednesday, April 14 to be recycled. The collection event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Campus Transportation Building. Enter campus at the main entrance on U.S. Highway 31 and follow the event signs to the backside of campus.
Only consumer electronics will be accepted.
Items not accepted include instruction manuals, boxes and other packaging the equipment came in, freon appliances and household hazardous waste.
Recycling fees are $3 per computer monitor; $3 per television; $8 per television more than 27 inches; and console TVs. Other accepted items are free. The fee helps off-set collection costs, with the remainder paid for by the Landfill Use Fund.
Some electronics contain hazardous materials that should be kept out of the waste stream. All electronics that contain metal, glass and plastic can be recycled.
The Electronics Recycling Event is sponsored by Berrien County Community Development Department and hosted by Andrews University.
There are a number of local electronics reuse and recycling options available year-round.
