Edwardsburg netters defeat Cassopolis

EDWARDSBURG – The Edwardsburg tennis team opened up its season with an 8-0 victory over rival Cassopolis in Lakeland Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eddies lost just six games in sweeping all eight flights.
Winning singles matches for Edwardsburg were Christina Boesler, Jenna Markn, Alex Watts and Emily Wagoner.
The Eddies’ doubles teams consisted of Nicole Davenport and Liz Ledeay; Haley Jones and Jamie Richardson; Nicole Nasco and Jacy Stachel; along with Alyssa Nasco and Saura Rowe.

Dowagiac at South Haven
SOUTH HAVEN – The Dowagiac varsity tennis team opened up its Wolverine Conference season Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2 win over host South Haven.
The Chieftains swept the singles flights and split the doubles flights to earn the victory.
Two of the three singles flights went to three sets.
Macy Howard defeated Sarah Powell at No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-1 and 6-3, while Maggie Cripe defeated Vivianna Osbon at No. 4 singles 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3.
Marquira Smith won in straight sets over Sarah Seiler (6-0, 6-0) and Casey Collins blanked Stephanie Olivas (6-0, 6-0) and No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively.
Alyssa Greenwood and Breneesha Jones won at No. 1 doubles over Alyson Klukowski and Jane Nixon 6-4 and 7-6. At No. 4 doubles, Jessica Holmes and Kristina Bunn defeated Cambera Gordon and Madi Griffin 7-5 and 6-4.
The Dowagiac junior varsity team also was a winner on Wednesday over South Haven.
Rachel McLaughlin and Sydney Foote won 7-5, Jessica Martin and Holly Frye won 6-0, Amber Emblin and Gabbi Dorman won 6-2, Lea Zuhl and Easton Preston won 6-3 and Kara Gaideski and Hannah MacDonald were also winners, although no score was provided.

COLOMA – The Buchanan tennis team opened up Lakeland Conference play on Wednesday with a 6-2 win over host Coloma.
The Bucks swept the doubles flights and split the singles flights to earn the win.
Kristine Gordon and Ashley Devereaux captured wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively.
Jessie Hansen and Kayle Brademas were winners at No. 1 doubles; Maddie Higgins and Ally Cornwell were winners at No. 2 doubles; Dana Dowell and Audrey Funk were winners at No. 3 doubles; along with Desi and Lacy Phillips at No. 4 doubles.
