Weddings are typically the best planned events ever. The time, the place, the guest list, the attire, the food and the schedule have been thought about and prepared for. One would think that a wedding is the last place where you would need an emergency plan.
In the early days of the ministry of Jesus Christ, Jesus went to a wedding (John 2). He was there with his mother and his disciples. Things were going along well until the unthinkable happened – they ran out of wine.

The weddings in Jesus’ day were planned and hosted by the groom. Thus, all the provisions were the responsibility of the groom.

When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother brought it to His attention (John 2:3).
It would not be easy for the groom to fix the problem. It would not be a quick trip to the wine cellar or to the store. The wine was probably the most prepared item in the wedding party. With the wine gone, the party would not continue long. The reputation of the groom and his family were at risk, and the blessing that a good wedding party could impart to the marriage was in jeopardy.

It is interesting how one thing, many times, can totally disrupt our lives. We can find ourselves in seemingly hopeless situations with no visible means of deliverance.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. In essence He is God. He was at the wedding. In the midst of this disaster, who else would you want on your guest list? The groom did not know the resource he had at hand.

The mother of Jesus told the servants to do whatever Jesus told them to do. Jesus seemed a little reluctant to perform his first miracle at this event, but he told the servants to take the jars, the kind the Jews used for ceremonial washing, and fill them with water. The servants did so. Jesus then told them to take this water from the jars to the master of the banquet (John 2:8).

The master of the banquet received what the servants had brought him, having no idea where it came from. When he tasted it, he said it was the best wine, so far, in the party. The normal custom was to use the best wine first and bring along the cheaper stuff for later. The result was the wedding party continued and was a great success.

The servants Jesus interacted with knew they had witnessed a miracle. The disciples of Jesus knew what had happened and their faith in Jesus Christ deepened.

The best made plans can go awry. Always be sure you can invite Almighty God to your events, and that He would be glorified through your plans. When His supernatural rescue is needed, it will be unexpected, unconventional, and will add nothing to your stature, but the results are always amazing.
