‘Meat Out Day’ a joke

Dear editor:

Is Jennifer Granholm serious? What is she trying to do, bankrupt the entire state? First the auto industry went belly-up on her watch, then she tried to sabotage the agriculture industry. What’s next?  Telling tourists to stay home? Telling us to not go to the movies when Michigan is developing a film industry?  Encouraging us to stop hunting and fishing?

I already try to eat a healthy diet and am not a huge fan of eating meat, although I am not a vegetarian. Nothing against animals, PETA. I have pets and I hate to see animals suffer.  However, I think it’s appalling that the governor of a state, our state which is already suffering, would declare a Meatout Day when agriculture is our second largest industry! It doesn’t matter that she recanted and back-peddled to declare that same day “Agriculture Day.” She is typical of all the other politicians who speak first and think later.

And, talk about political incorrectness! This is just another example of what politicians can get away with which the rest of us who are trying to make an honest living would be reprimanded for.

It seems that everyone but politicians get paid to think first, then to speak, so that we don’t insult anyone. That type of behavior would eventually get us fired. Hey! What a great idea!

We all will have our opportunity at the polls to fire the politicians who just don’t get it. As for me, I’m going out on Saturday to stimulate the economy by visiting the local diner and ordering a big, juicy steak!
