Shame on Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Kentucky, for trying to block a bill that would extend benefits for the jobless and would stop funding for highway money.
Bunning, who drew the ire of his own party for the filibuster that blocked passage of the bill for several days, is out of touch with reality, like so many others on Capitol Hill these days.
His intentions may have been good, as he was trying to block the stopgap bill because he didn’t want to add another $10 billion to the deficit.
However, by doing so, he was also cutting off funding to many who are in desperate need of the extension.
America is beginning to come out of its recession, but there is still a long way to go.
Congress seems to be deadlocked much of the time and this is just another example of our own government’s inability to help the American people.
These are real people who are in need of our government’s help. These are the people on Main Street that really need their assistance.
Instead, the Republicans and Democrats are too busy fighting each other over ridiculous items.
They are too busy bailing out Wall Street and bickering about health care.
The mid-term elections are coming up and it’s time the American people step up and send a strong message to Washington.
It’s time that we start letting our government leaders know that we will no longer stand for the type of leadership that fails to put America first.
Contact your local congressman and let them know where you stand. After all, they were elected to represent us, not special interest groups.
They were elected by the people to do the work for the people.
Right now congress is getting very little accomplished. They are too busy drawing lines in the sand and daring each other to cross them.
If they cannot, or will not work with each other to improve our country, then let’s send them packing.
The Republican Party has earned the label of the “Party of No.”
Since we hold the key to their future, let us become the “People of No.”
Let’s tell our leaders in Washington to that we have “no” more patience for their political grandstanding. We have “no” more time to wait for them to get with the program and begin putting us ahead of their own political agendas.
We have the power. Now it is time to exercise it.
