Students in Howard-Ellis Elementary School’s kindergarten classrooms competed for medals in their own Olympic Ceremony this month.

To get a gold medal students had to count by 10s to 200, by fives to 110, by ones to 100, backward from 20-0. They also had to memorize kindergarten vocabulary words.

For a silver medal, students had to count by 10s to 100, fives to 50, ones to 50, backward from 15-0 and know half of the sight words.

For a bronze medal students had to count by 10s to 50, ones to 30, backward from 10-0, know five sight words and all capital letters.

Teachers say they were very proud of the students’ hard work and the fact that everyone earned a medal, learning about hard work and its rewards.
