For some people, retirement can be bittersweet.

Niles Community Schools Superintendent Doug Law is hanging up his superintendent hat at the end of this school year.

With 39 years of dedicated service to Niles Schools, Law has proven that being in education doesn’t mean moving from district to district to find the next opportunity – Niles had everything to offer.

Law started as an elementary teacher and moved his way up the ranks to chief, where he has been for about a decade.

Although retirement can be hard for anyone, who can blame him at this point? This is a tough time for educators – everyone is struggling to keep what they have and maintain an excellent education for their students. More very tough decisions are forthcoming, and Law will still have to make some of those.

Richard Weigel has been chosen to fill Law’s spot, with the current superintendent “training him in” for a short time. We believe Law will be a good mentor for Weigel as he transitions in here.

We wish Law a wonderful, stress-free retirement and a smooth last few months with Niles Schools.
