The Niles Garden Club met Tuesday and Joan Verwilst, a long-time member of the club, presented a program, “How to Read Garden Catalogs and Order by Mail.”

The presentation included information on catalog evaluation and selection and ideas to consider prior to placing and during the order placement procedure.

The discussion also covered the evolution of garden catalogs over the past 30 years, with emphasis and information on how to choose a reliable catalog. Online ordering was also discussed, along with many detailed suggestions taken from Joan’s own gardening experiences.

In other news, the seventh annual “Garden Party,” presented jointly by The Niles Garden Club and The Niles District Library, will be held at the library Saturday, March 20.
There will be four topical presentations scheduled throughout the day.
