Jack Howard Fisher, 84, of Allen Road, Dowagiac died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend of an illness.
He was born March 25, 1925 in Bertrand Township to John Fisher and Lelia Mary Copp. He was a lifetime resident.
Jack retired in 1982 from National-Standard Co. in Niles. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed at the sub base in Pearl Harbor. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and horse races. He also enjoyed playing slot machines and cards. He loved to travel.
On July 7, 1950 in Ottawa, Ill. he married Ernestine Marie (Ballard) Fisher, who died April 10, 1994. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl C. Fisher, who died April 19, 1981, Roy Thomas Fisher, who died Dec. 30, 2002, Dwight Fisher, who died July 5, 1968 and Pete Fisher; a sister, Lois “Sally” Fenters, who died Feb. 9, 2010; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Rajski, who died July 21, 1990.
Jack is survived by his companion, Barbara Bright of Niles; five stepchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with the Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
