George Maurice Adams, 68, of Ironwood Road, Niles, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles suddenly, but of natural causes.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1941 in Wilson, New York, to William H. and Ethel E. (Hill) Adams. He moved to Niles from Arizona over 30 years ago, and had spent most of his life in Orlando, Fla. In 2003, he retired from AG Trucking in Goshen, Ind.
George served in the United States Navy from 1963-64. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 284 in South Bend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of No. 88 Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
On Nov. 1, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nev., he married the former Louise Kay Prenkert, who survives.
Mr. Adams is also survived by his children, Estella (and Austin) Adams Lane and Jerry Stephens, both of Niles, Linda (and Paul) Kilanski of Yuma, Ariz., and Lavonne Lundquist of Mishawaka, Ind.; step-children John (and Melinda) Shreve of South Bend, Ind., and Kari (and Glen) Gonder of Constantine, Mich.; six grandchildren, several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings Wallace and Elmer Adams, Marie Caldrun and Patty Sikes, all of Florida, and Gordon Adams of California.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Lynn Adams, who died Sept. 23, 2004.
Services for George Maurice Adams will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Capt. William Walters of The Salvation Army in Niles officiating. Committal will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, and will conclude with full military honors by American Legion Post No. 51 in Buchanan.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of George may be made to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
