Free archaeology, fly fishing classes available

Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus is offering free non-credit Community Education workshops throughout March on topics including local archaeological research and how to fly fish. Classes will be held at the Bertrand Crossing Campus, 1905 Foundation Drive, Niles.

‘Digging Up Niles’
This class, held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, will be an introduction to the basics of archaeological research, including the how and why of investigations. The technologies and techniques used in archaeological research and how the gathered information is interpreted will also be addressed. The class is free.

‘Fly fishing’
Members of the St. Joe River Valley Fly Fishers will teach the basics of tying flies and fly fishing from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20. The class is free.
