Harry Schulz, 84

Harry Schulz, 84

Harry Robert Schultz, 84, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, 2010 at home in Niles after a courageous battle against cancer. He was assisted and attended by his family, the caring staff at Brentwood and the very loving and competent staff of Hospice at Home, Buchanan.

Harry was the fourth of six children born to Herman and Ida (Pallas) Schulz. Harry was born on Nov. 24, 1925 in rural Lincoln Township, Berrien County. He was united in marriage to the former Donna Jean Timmons on Aug. 8, 1946 in Kentucky.

Harry was called “Grandpa” by his grandchildren, “Uncle Harry” by his numerous nieces and nephews and “a good friend” by all who knew him well. He loved fast, sporty, beautiful cars, especially the Porsche and Jaguar. He kept all of his vehicles in tiptop shape with his own mechanical and restorative skills. He was a big fan of all racing, especially NASCAR.

Harry had a fine artistic eye for both color and design. He seemed happiest being outdoors, whistling back in perfect mimic to the chatty birds who admired the glistened sheen of his work as he washed, buffed and shined his cars and trucks. He had a fine sense of humor that buoyed all around him as he fought his last fight against cancer. He will be remembered by those closest, as one who did not complain about his fate and who seemed always happy and grateful for the care and love he received by those around him.
Harry worked at Auto Specialty as a timekeeper; was manager of a Buick dealership; owner and operator of his own gas and garage station in Sister Lakes; then ending his work career at Kawaneer Co.

Harry is survived by his granddaughter, Jennifer (Brad) Whipple of Niles; grandson, Jeffrey Schulz of Dowagiac; sister-in-law Connee (Rob) Canfield; brother-in-law, Ron (Lynn) Timmons of Niles; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Harry’s good friend and advocate, Ron Robaska.

Harry is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean (Timmons) Schulz; son, Robert Lewis Schulz; brothers and sisters, Henry (Hank), Clara (Sis), Arnold (Joe), Irene (Rene) and Ruth (Toots).

As per Harry’s request cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be May at Keeler Cemetery in Van Buren County.

Memorials in Harry’s memory may be made to Hospice at Home 4017 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107.
