Barbara Jean Clark, 64, mayor of Buchanan, of 171 North Redbud Trail died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at 121 Elizabeth St., Buchanan of natural causes.
She was born June 9, 1945 in Niles. She was a lifetime Buchanan resident.
Barbara was mayor of Buchanan; a member of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, Buchanan; Fellowship Coral Union Choir, South Bend; National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Chorus; retired clerk for the City of Buchanan; became commissioner in 2008 and was elected mayor in 2008.
On Aug. 7, 1971 in Buchanan, she married Ardean Clark Sr., who survives.
She is also survived by her mother, Susie Bobbitt of Buchanan; sons, Landon (Cassandra) Clark of San Leandro, Calif., Anthony Clark of Chicago; daughters, Kyra Clark of Buchanan, Bernice (Anthony) Patterson of Kalamazoo, Adrian Clark of Beaver Creek, Ohio; brothers, Turner Bobbitt of Valencia, Calif., Millard (Dorothy) Catchings, Leroy (Andrea) Bobbitt Jr. of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Leroy Bobbitt Sr.; and three brothers, James Bobbitt Sr., Willie Bobbitt and Clifton Babbitt.
Services will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, Buchanan with the Rev. Albert Miller of the church officiating.
Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan and from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 8 at the church.
