To the editor:

The Dec. 22 American Red Cross Holiday Blood Drive sponsored by Dowagiac Knights of Columbus Council 2113 and the Peninsular 10 Masonic Lodge was held at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church.

We greatly appreciate the donors’ effort during such a busy time of the year and the effort to brave icy road conditions to insure the gift of life was available to others.

We were able to collect 38 pints of blood.

We wish to extend a world of gratitude to the following business: Family Fare supermarket for its contribution of finger food and beverages for Red Cross workers, volunteers and donors.

Also to be thanked were the local businesses for placing posters in prominent places and for stuffing flyers.

The informative coverage by the Dowagiac Daily News and WGTO radio station was greatly appreciated.

During the holiday season with so many people traveling, it is essential that our blood supplies are sufficient.

It is also particularly appropriate to take a little extra time for reflection to appreciate the many blessings we have received.

Of course, no successful blood drive can exist without our frequent donors. Also, very important are the volunteers assisting the American Red Cross  who took time from their busy schedules to help out.

What a great gift of life!

Thanks again for all your support.
