Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery will hold a Community Open House meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in large meeting room of the Niles Law Enforcement Complex at 1600 Silverbrook Ave. in Niles.
Throughout the year, the group works to maintain the monuments and the stories of our local history as represented by those buried at Silverbrook. Those interested in the group’s activities and those who might be interested in discovering more of how they might be involved are urged to attend.
There will be a presentation on the Silverbrook Legacies column that appears in the Niles Daily Star. This year, the group will begin to pursue a grant to gather the stories of Silverbrook in a book. Those who are interested in sharing their family stories of relatives buried in Silverbrook are encouraged to bring along any information, obituaries and photos for consideration.
For those who have those boxes of old photos and documents that no one seems to want, the group will share information on how these items can be preserved by donating or bequeathing them to the local library.
Refreshments will be served.
