Contest open to Berrien County pianists

The 15th annual Hartman Stickley Memorial Piano Competition Winners Recital will be held March 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Annenberg Auditorium, Snite Museum, University of Notre Dame.
The competition itself will be held March 5 and 6 at the downtown branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library and is open to pre-college students from kindergarten through grade 12. Sponsored by the South Bend Area Music Teachers Association, it is open to piano students of teachers in Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan and Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph and Starke counties in Indiana.
The four winners in each of four divisions will perform in the Winners Recital March 14 and win cash prizes: $150 for grades 10-12; $100 for grades 7-9; $75 for grades 4-6; and $50 for grades K-3. Contestants who receive honorable mention will win cash prizes as well. All awards will be dispersed following the winners’ performances March 14.
Prize money is made available through the Elnora Hartman Stickley Scholarship Fund.
Judges will be Winston Choi from Roosevelt College; Susan Osborn from Northwestern University; and Craig Sale from Columbia University.
The postmarked entry deadline is Feb. 3, and applications are available at Shirk’s Piano in Mishawaka.
