Let the Haitians come here

Dear editor:

Haiti has suffered yet another devastating calamity.

It will not end with the headlines crying out “earthquake.”

It will continue with hunger, disease and violence extending far into the future.

That is the nature of humanity in calamity.

Haiti had about 8.7 million inhabitants before the most recent crisis shook their shores.
A poor nation.

A tired nation.

A weary nation.

Let the Haitians come to the United States.

That part of the island where they have been forced to live is only borderline habitable.
They have no natural resources.

Their neighbors in the Dominican Republic – on the same island – provide little or no assistance.

Millions of illegal immigrants have flooded into our nation and have taken not only American jobs and futures – but the hopes and dreams of many people who have a claim to this – the only really free country on earth.

Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota and especially Alaska are all severely under populated.

With an increase in population – through legal immigration like that from Haiti – jobs will be spurred and Americans can once again get a firsthand look at the difference between the hard work, thrift and genuine joy of people coming to join us in the United States rather than coming to steal from us.

There is plenty of land in the United States. Wouldn’t you like to see it settled by people that want to come here and help rather than to come here and take?

Sincerely,
Alfred Brock
