Wesley Wilbanks, 66, of Spruce Street in Dowagiac passed away at his home Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 with his family by his side.
Wesley was born on March 24, 1943 to the late James and Mary (McCain) Wilbanks in Culman, Ala.
Wesley proudly served his county in the United States Army for many years and was a retired SFC from the Army National Guard. He was also a lay speaker at the United Methodist Church in Dowagiac, where he was a member. In his free time Wesley loved to travel, go horseback riding and listen to country music. He was a member of the American Legion Post 309 in Decatur, Cass County Civitan Club and the Dowagiac 246 Armory.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Wesley is survived by his wife Barbara (Tidey) Wilbanks of Dowagiac; two daughters; two stepsons; a stepdaughter; four grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; brother, Maj. Guy Wilbanks; and three sisters, Martha Chandler, Nancy Wilbanks and Mona Seckfort, all of Cullman, Ala.
The family will be holding a memorial service on Sunday, Jan.17, 2010 at United Methodist Church in Dowagiac, 326 North Lowe St. in Dowagiac at 3 p.m. Pastor John Kasper will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Wesley’s memory to the American Legion Post 309 or Borgess Hospice at 1521 Gull Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
