Work at the Edwardsburg Sports Complex is coming along.

In early fall, volunteers and generous corporate donations worked to construct eight acres of irrigated sports fields.

These fields can be used for any sport.

Edwardsburg Youth Soccer Association will be able to use the fields as a home for its more than 50 teams that currently play at Eagle Lake Elementary.

Other athletic activities will be able benefit from the fields as well.

The newest addition to recreational activities at the complex is cross-country skiing.
A group of volunteers recently spent time marking the trails.

Ben Pion and Matthew Baldwin, EYSA board members, and Dan and Mitchell Ramsey of Edwardsburg Rocket Football worked with Ed Patzer to place stakes and flags along the entire course.

The trails utilize the perimeter of the 102-acre property.

Cross-country skiing is open to the public.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy winter and stay fit during the cold months.

Even though the area had minimal snow cover last weekend, the complex had it first skiers try out the course.

Matthew Baldwin and his children, Bailey and Joelly, dusted off their skiis.

The Baldwins are fitness enthusiasts, participating in several road races and triathlons each year.

Bailey, a sixth grade student at Edwardsburg Middle School, said,”I am very excited about the complex. This opens up new opportunities for sports in our community.”

Bailey plans in using the complex for cross-country skiing. He is also excited to use the upcoming fitness trails for training runs. He would also like to see an indoor swimming pool built.

Joelly is in fifth grade at Edwardsburg Intermediate School. Concerning the complex she said, “It’s going to be fun.” She is “excited to come out and play soccer at the new fields.” She also plans on skiing and running.

Signs will be up soon marking the start of the trail, which is on the south side of the barn. Visit the Web page www.edwardsburgsportscomplex.org.

The board of directors is always looking for volunteers.

Donations are needed to complete the project.
