VFW Post 1855 Commander Skip Cline Wednesday morning accepted a $1,000 contribution from Pamida, represented by Barb Wilcox and Lisa Burden. The Pamida foundation was able to increase its donation from $750 in 2008 for Shop with a Cop, Firefighter and Veteran, which Cline said the VFW will match to brighten the holidays for 12 families. Shopping will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the store on M-51 South. (The Daily News/John Eby)
Do you find yourself stressed from “holiday frenzy?”
Too little time to shop, cook, clean, wrap, bake, etc., leaving your patience and your wallet strained to the limit.
Dowagiac Department of Public Safety, local VFW Post 1855 and Dowagiac Pamida have an opportunity for you and your family to enjoy a delicious, low-cost meal with no fuss and no clean-up while helping other local families in need this holiday season.
City Police and Fire Departments, Pamida and the VFW invite you to join their team to bring a little added holiday cheer to some local families.
Join them Thursday, Dec. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at VFW Post 1855 on E. Division Street for a dinner of slow-simmered pulled pork sandwiches, special-recipe baked beans, crunchy cole slaw, potato chips and coffee for an economical $6 per meal.
Carry-outs are available. Additional sandwiches cost $1 each. They are so delicious, you will surely not stop with just one!
Firefighters and police officers will be assisting VFW members in preparing this special feast and will be serving you on the 17th along with Pamida teammates.
Tickets are available in advance at VFW Post 1855, Pamida, at the Police Department at City Hall, at the Fire Department on Wolf Street behind Northwest Park youth soccer fields and at the door the night of the event.
Donations of non-perishable food items and new toys will be accepted.
All proceeds and donations to this event will benefit the Dowagiac Shop with a Cop, Firefighter and Veteran and holiday food basket programs for Dowagiac families.
Marie Fester of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary said they fed 10 National Copper families in 2008.
Families across the nation have experienced a difficult economy the past few years, and we believe it is not only our responsibility, but our privilege, to assist those in the Dowagiac community who may have been affected by job loss, illness or some other challenge that has placed a financial hardship on their ability to celebrate with a few special treats during the holiday season.
Please accept our holiday gift to you: a delicious, inexpensive, easy dinner for your family with a special bonus: the privilege of helping brighten a local family’s holiday.
Mark your calendar, purchase your tickets and we will look forward to serving you on Thursday, Dec. 17, at Dowagiac VFW Post 1855.
