To the editor:

I felt the need to write regarding Mr. Wreggitt’s comments in the Dowagiac Daily News.
Mr. Wreggitt stated that I PUSHED him to run for mayor. At no time did I ever push, pull or drag Mr. Wreggitt to run for office.

A couple years ago, I stopped in at The Manor, and Mr. Wreggitt was complaining about the city.

I explained to Mr. Wreggitt that he had no right to complain about anything to do with Dowagiac government unless he was a registered voter and actually voted.

I told him to have the right to complain, he should register to vote, vote in elections and then he would have the option of running for office.

This year, Mr. Wreggitt decided to run for office, even though he wasn’t a registered voter.

Over the years, I have run or have been hired to run many political campaigns, most recently the Obama campaign in Berrien County.

I would never PUSH someone to run for office that I personally wouldn’t vote for myself, and Mr. Wreggitt is definitely someone who wouldn’t receive my vote.

I approached Mr. Wreggitt about four weeks ago and asked if he would consider a debate with Mr. Lyons if I could arrange it with the League of Women Voters. He stated that he was busy and didn’t have time for a debate.

Now Mr. Wreggitt is wanting to debate the mayor with the election taking place Tuesday.
Again, I want to make this very clear, I never asked or pushed him to run for office, nor do I think he has the educational background or needed experience to be the mayor of this city.
