Drive your tractor to church

Members and friends of Portage Prairie United Methodist Church will be driving their tractors, old and new, large and small to church Sunday, Sept. 27. The show of tractors is part of the First Annual Heritage Day at the rural Niles Church located at 2450 Orange Road.

Everyone is welcome to the 10 a.m. service, following a parade of  tractors to the church from nearby Chicago Road.

The service, an old-fashioned tent meeting, will feature hymn signing, a special family singing group and a soloist. Singing will be the Glass Family from Coloma and vocalist Julia Lindsay of Grenon  Andrews University. The choir will also sing during a special children’s time puppet show. The church historian also will speak on the history and growth of the church since 1851.

The Rev. O’Ryan Rickard, the newly assigned pastor, will preach on “Three Words for the Journey: Celebrate, Innovate and Dedicate.” The text will be from Exodus 15.
Following the service where will be a free hog roast and dinner. Members and friends of the church are asked to bring a dish to pass. Tableservice will be provided.

There will also be free wagon rides, various yard games for adults and children, and a softball game in the adjacent field.
