CASSOPOLIS – Have you ever wondered what 4-H is all about?

If you have, then you should attend the 4-H open house on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Oct. 4-10 is National 4-H Week. In celebration of National 4-H week they would like to share with the community what 4-H in Cass County is doing.

At the 4-H Open House you will learn about the different clubs in the county and information will be available on how to join a 4-H club.

They will have current 4-H members available to share their experiences about trips they have gone on to Washington, D.C., and to Exploration Days on the Michigan State University campus.

They will also be able to tell about their camp and fair experiences.

4-H members love being involved in the fair, but there is much more to  4-H than fair week.

Youth involved in 4-H make many new friends, learn responsibility and citizenship, build leadership skills and, of course, have fun.

Parents, 4-H is great organization to get your children involved in. Youth can join 4-H from 5 years old until 19 years old.

As a bonus, during the 4-H open house, they will be conducting a hands-on Biofuel Blast Off Experiment at 4, 5 and 6 with the youth who are in attendance.

Through the fun-filled experiment involving balloons, water, dried leaves and yeast, youth will learn about alternate energy sources for a greener tomorrow.

Cass County 4-H Leaders’ Association will be conducting a Skillet Chicken Dinner Fundraiser at the same time.

Each dinner costs $20 and will feed a family of four.

The Skillet Restaurant in South Bend, Ind., will be bringing the dinners to the Gregarek Building for pick-up that night.
Each dinner includes eight pieces of broasted chicken, one pint of mashed potatoes, a half-pint pint of gravy, one pint of seasoned green beans, one pint of  kluski noodles, four fluffy biscuits with honey butter and an eight-inch pan of brownies.
Everyone who has had the food through other fundraisers say it is delicious.
If you would like to pick up a dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 7, tickets must be purchased prior to Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. through local 4-H clubs or the MSU  Extension office in the County Building at 120 N. Broadway, Suite 209, Cassopolis.
They look forward to seeing you at the 4-H open house.
