To the editor:
Countless people have gained from using the Y.M.C.A facilities around the world, looking for a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps few have taken the time to write a letter of appreciation while experiencing excellent results. I am 66 years old and have been attending the Niles-Buchanan branch continuously for two years, three times per week.
After almost two years of taking advantage from the use of their equipment and classes, I think it is time to express my appreciation for their friendly staff and list the many benefits gained from my experience at the “Y” which has been a lot more that just “hanging out with the boys” as the YMCA song says!
I’ve enjoyed my half-hour cardio on the treadmill and, most of all, I love attending classes, particularly Power Pump, Ab blast, Zumba, and Spin & Sculpt. The teachers are highly professional, energetic and motivating. I have benefited tremendously from these classes, both physically and mentally: My left shoulder bursitis is gone and so is my left knee arthritis, my left hip injury due to a fall is comletely healed, my last bone density revealed a 1 percent reversal in spinal osteoporosis, I have been able to lose weight and keep it down, my body has been reshaped, toned and muscled, my doctor’s visits are now reduced to yearly physicals, and the endorphins released after workout have helped me cope with my husband’s death.
I credit the above benefits to the classes conducted by dedicated teachers, which more than compensates for the membership cost. I am so proud to be a member of the “Y” that I have been able to inspire at least one co-worker who recently enrolled in the Power Pump class.
Furthermore, I have joined the Wellness Committee of Andrew University, where I have been able to share my enthusiasm for fitness.
