Driver pulled from burning car at Five Points Road

CASSOPOLIS – A witness to an accident at Five Points Road on Thursday, pulled the victim from her burning car.

Cass County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find the vehicle involved in the crash completely consumed by fire.

The deputies were called to the intersection of Five Points Road and Grange Street in Mason Township at about 8:27 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

The vehicle, driven by Erica Briggs, 40, of Cassopolis, was north bound on Five Points Road, according to Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr.

Briggs failed to stop at the “T” intersection and impacted a group of trees on the north side of Grange Street, according to the sheriff’s report.

Assisting at the scene of the crash were Porter Township Fire and Ambulance and Oslo Ambulance. The driver of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to U.S. 12 and Five Points where she was transferred over to Med-Flight staff and airlifted to Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
