The final Berrien County Household Hazardous Waste Collection in 2009 is on Saturday, Oct. 17, 8 a.m. to noon at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill, 3200 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan.

The collections are free except for large quantities of automobile batteries (three and above = $1/battery, 1st two free) and liquids (11 gallons and above/item = $0.50/gallon, 1st 10 gallons/item free).
The following items are not accepted at the collections: latex paint (can be dried out and placed next to your regular trash with the lid off the can), gas grill propane tanks, appliances, or electronics of any kind. Check the Berrien County Recycling Guide for recycling and disposal options for these materials at www.berriencounty.org/recycle.
