SOUTH HAVEN – Hundreds of antique engine and tractor enthusiasts are expected to attend the Michigan Flywheelers Museum’s Antique Engine and Tractor Show that is set to begin on Thursday, Sept. 10.
In its 26th year, the four-day event draws hobbyists from all over the country to the museum which is located on 68th street in Geneva Township. Antique tractors, old flywheel engines and huge steam traction engines are just a few examples of the farming machinery that is brought to the show.
Running through Sunday, Sept. 13, the show will feature working demonstrations at the sawmill, shingle mill and blacksmith shop, exhibits in the “Old Towne” area like the Old Towne Jail, Abbert & Sons Farm Machinery Repair Shop, a migrant farm camp and a new display – “Home Remedies” in the log cabin.
Not only does the show have plenty of old flywheel engines and tractors to see, it has plenty of family-oriented activities including daily equipment parades, antique tractor and garden tractor pulls, cake walks, games like the Flywheel Toss, bingo, consignment auction and valve cover racing.
This year’s evening entertainment features local musician Carl Payne playing songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s at 8 p.m. on Thursday, The Bronk Bros. at 8:30 p.m on Friday and the Polka Brothers at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Also included in the entertainment lineup is the Casco Band at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Saturday is considered “Kid’s Day” at the show and starts with a Kiddie Pedal Pull at noon, a sawdust pile treasure hunt at 3:30 p.m. and the John Dudley Magic Show at 7 p.m. In “The Barnyard,” kids will be able to drive a “wooden tractor” and hay wagon.
For shoppers, there is a large outdoor flea market with over 220 vendors, and the Wooden Nickel gift shop which is filled with tractor-related and museum logo items.
