Tree-Mendus outing planned on Sept. 2

Dowagiac Junior Arts Club meets at Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm, Eureka Road, Eau Claire, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at noon.
Lunch will be a picnic buffet.
“An Apple Affair” is the name of the program.
Herb Teichman, owner with his wife, Liz, of Tree-Mendus, will talk about the heritage of old varieties of apples such as wealthy, dutchess, northern spy and jonathan.
These apples are still grown on the farm as well as many others.
Herb will offer a bit of history on the development of an apple variety.
The Teichmans grow approximately 250 varieties of fruit at Tree-Mendus.
A tour of the orchards will be available with an opportunity to pick apples.
Jean Steven is program chairperson for the day.
Her committee is Meredith O’Hare, Eve Phillipson and Bobbie Scanlon.
