Duane Brewer, 81, of Idlewild, passed away in Grand Rapids at Butterworth Hospital, Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009.

Funeral Services will be today, Saturday Aug. 22, at noon at Verdun Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Hillyard will be officiating. Visitation will be at 11 a.m.

He was born March 3, 1928 in Decatur, to Hallie and Fern (True) Brewer.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a truck driver for 22 years with the Jackel Corporation. He also was a volunteer for Howard Township in Niles. After retiring he moved to the Idlewild area.

He is survived by his life companion, June Otalski; a son, Michael (Jeanna) Brewer, of Niles; two step-daughters Ruth Ann Otalski, of Indiana and Deb (Charles) Jones, of Indiana; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ethel Lund, Belva Carns, and Elaine Kromer, all of Niles.
