Hiller on Manning Watch List

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Tim Hiller was one of 38 quarterbacks named to the 2009-10 Manning Award Watch List announced by the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Monday afternoon.
It is the third watch list the Orrville, Ohio, native has appeared on this preseason along with the Davey O’Brien and Walter Camp Player of the Year Awards Watch List.

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced its 2009 preseason Watch List on Monday.

The list includes 38 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2009 season.
The winner will be announced after the bowls in January and will be honored at a February banquet in New Orleans.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates’ bowl performances.

Hiller enters the 2009 season 12 passing touchdowns from breaking the WMU career record held by former Bronco and former WMU quarterbacks coach Tim Lester since 1999.

He is also the Mid-American Conference’s active leader in the same category, 25 behind current career record holder Chad Pennington (Marshall).

Western Michigan is entering its second week of preseason camp with its first scrimmage coming Thursday afternoon.

The Broncos open the 2009 campaign at Michigan on Sept. 5 and opens the home schedule against MAC East rival Miami on Sept. 19, CommUniverCity Night.
