Crash kills Granger man in Volinia Twp.

CASSOPOLIS – Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports that a fatal traffic crash occurred on Decatur Road at the intersection of Dewey Lake Street  in Cass County’s Volinia Township.

The crash occurred on Friday, Aug. 14, at 8:40 p.m.

Investigation showed that Michael Wilson, 28, of Marcellus, was traveling west in his Toyota pickup on Dewey Lake Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Dewey Lake Street and Decatur Road.

Wilson hit a Chevrolet Cobalt which was south bound on Decatur Road.

The Cobalt was driven by Thomas Hiatt, 41, of Granger, Ind. Hiatt  was fatally injured.
Next of kin were contacted and notified of Mr. Hiatt’s death.

Wilson was transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial hospital in Dowagiac for injuries sustained in the crash.

Cass County deputies were assisted on scene by Coloma Aambulance, Sister Lakes ambulance, Air Care, Wayne Township Fire and Decatur fire. The crash is under investigation.
