Carly Polomcak showed the reserve champion mini-lop in Wednesday's Cass County Fair rabbit show. She took first place in intermediate showmanship on her way to winning champion rabbit showmanship and the Roger Locke memorial traveling trophy. Carly, who belongs to Friendly Folks 4-H, has been showing rabbits for seven years. "Four years ago, I had a chance to get this and I took reserve because I took my hand off the rabbit's head. One little mistake and four years later, all my hard work paid off. When they called my name I was in shock," she said Thursday afternoon. Carly also shows poultry and goats. This year she added a dairy feeder steer. Carly will be a sophomore at Dowagiac Union High School, where she plays basketball and volleyball. "I want to go into the medical field, maybe be a radiologist." She also has Dutch, mini-Rex and Siamese rabbits. She starts getting ready for the rabbit show in June. Next year she's considering showing a lamb or a pig. (The Daily News/John Eby)
