Modena Morgan, 78, formerly of Bertrand Road, Niles, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at her home in Manchester, Tenn., following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Mr. David Thompson of the Church of Christ, officiating.

Committal will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1931, in Truman, Ark., to Delmar and Gladys (Brown) Slatton and graduated from Leachville (Ark.) High School. She has lived in Niles since 1950, moving to Manchester four years ago.

In Niles, she assisted her husband with his business, John’s Budget Store. She was a member of the Niles Church of Christ and as a younger lady, enjoyed painting, quilting and crochet, but her devotion was always to her family and her church family.

On Dec. 24, 1949, in Piggott, Ark., she married John W. Morgan, who died on Jan. 6, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don Slatton.

Surviving family includes her children, Rita Anderson of Spring Hall, Tenn., Jerry (Deb) Morgan and Andy (Janet) Morgan, all of Manchester, Tenn., Linda (Dave) Johnson of Melbourne, Fla., Lee Ann (Kerry) Duke of Cookeville, Tenn. and Paul (Gayle) Morgan of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and brothers, Eugene Slatton of Enum Claw, Wash., Floyd Slatton of Thayer, Mo. and Ken Slatton of Greenville, Ill. and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice At Home.
