Bernard Wendell “Bernie” Parsons, 84, of Edwardsburg, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his home in Edwardsburg.

There will be no visitation or services at this time. Cremation has taken place.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the graveside in Adamsville Cemetery for Military Rites by the Edwardsburg V.F.W. and the American Legion with their honor guard, at a date and time to be announced later.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Randolph County, Ind., the son of William Henry and Calla Blanche (Hathaway) Parsons.

At the age of 17, Bernie joined his brothers by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked for Whirlpool, then Bendix, and later at Honeywell, as a machinist.
He was a member of the Edwardsburg V.F.W. Post and was the charter commander of the post. He was also a member of Edwardsburg American Legion Post No. 365.
He lived in the Michiana area most of his life.

Surviving family include his wife, Helen J. (Magner) Parsons and his children, Bernard Wendell (Susan) Parsons II of St. Joseph, David M. (Laura) Parsons of St. Joseph, Karen C. (John) Cook of Edwardsburg, Kathleen J. P. (Timothy) Tabor of Elkridge, Md., Karyl R. (Don) Byrd of Salisbury, Md.; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death  by his parents; a son, Kirk W. Parsons; two sisters, Ada Barr and Marylee Ewald; six brothers, Geareld Parsons, James C. Parsons, William Ray Parsons, Herbert Parsons, Stanley L. Parsons, and Charles Hole and his step-father, Daniel Hole.

Arrangements were by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
