DOWAGIAC – It doesn’t seem to make a difference who her partner is or when she decides to team up with that person.

The end result is always the same for Lisa Rubino.

For the fifth straight year, Rubino captured the Dowagiac City Tennis Tournament’s women’s doubles championship.

Her first three wins came with Ann O’Keefe, while last year’s title came with Taylor Townsend.

On Saturday at the Dowagiac Middle School tennis courts, Rubino teamed with Michelle Urbanski to claim the title.

Rubino and Urbanski defeated Sue Watson and Ami Sarao in straight sets 6-2 and 7-5.
Sarao was also in the finals last year against Rubino as she teamed with Elizabeth Kolden.

Men’s doubles
Larry Watson and Jim Darr successfully defended their men’s double championship with a 6-3 and 6-3 victory over Dave Negron and Mike Urbanski.

Watson and Darr reached the finals with a 6-0 and 6-1 win over Bo Parson and Armapol Sarao.

Negron and Urbanski advanced to the finals with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Parsons and Sarao.

Mixed doubles
Rubino just missed out on her sixth straight mixed doubles championship on Sunday, falling in three sets.

Ami Sarao and Larry Watson defeated Lisa and Chuck Rubino in the finals 3-6, 6-0 and 6-2.

Sarao and Watson advanced to the title match with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Michelle and Mike Urbanski.

The win also erased a straight set loss to Lisa and Mike Rubino in last year’s championship match.

Team Rubino reached the finals with a 6-3 and 6-3 victory over Sue Watson and Darr.
