Senior All-Stars nip Vicksburg for title

The Niles Senior All-Stars scored a run in the top of the seventh to edge Vicksburg for the Michigan District 15 Little League championship Wednesday night at Thomas Stadium.

Niles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the second inning, but Vicksburg came right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Vicksburg then took a 4-3 lead with two more runs in the third inning.

Niles reclaimed the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth, but trailed 7-5 after Vicksburg’s half-inning.

From there it was all Niles.

The All-Stars scored two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to rally for the win, which sends them to Constantine on Saturday for the Sectional.

The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The second game is slated for 4 p.m.

Riley Robson, Kelvin Tweedy and John Carey combined to pitch Niles by Vicksburg.

The trio scattered eight hits and combined to strike out eight.

The All-Stars finished with nine hits, including a double, a home run and three RBIs from Rashad Harris.

Niles also got a single, a double and two RBIs from Brian Exner, while Evan Zimmerman doubled and drove in a run. Jeremy Zimmerman added a pair of hits.

Mike Waldon had a single, a double and four RBIs for Vicksburg, which also got two hits from Connor McCormick, who also drove in a run. Drew DeBoer added an RBI single.
