MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan University's spring semester honors list includes these freshmen: Samantha Brawley, of Niles; Grant Cramer, of Niles; Jeffrey Jurgonski, of Niles; Justin Zimmerman, of Niles; and Steven Petro, of Three Oaks.
Central Michigan University senior Julie Nelson of Cassopolis was selected to exhibit work during the university's annual Posters at the Capitol event.
Nelson's project is titled "Synthesis and Antioxidant Capacity of Syringaldehyde Tetramer."
Nelson, a Ross Beatty High School graduate, is the daughter of Carol Kline. She is majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry at CMU.
Sponsored by CMU's College of Science and Technology and the Government Relations and Public Affairs Office, the 2009 Posters at the Capitol event was held at the State Capitol April 21 in Lansing. Twenty-four CMU students met with legislators to showcase posters depicting their research efforts.
This year marked the ninth annual Posters at the Capitol event. Posters at the Capitol spotlights the quality and diversity of undergraduate research occurring at CMU.

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Brittanie Black, Niles, has been named a Trustee Scholar at Rockford College, Ill. for the fall semester. Criteria for the honor includes a competitive interview process; 3.35 GPA and 25 composite ACT.

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Valparaiso University student Ted Pietrzak of Edwardsburgh was one of 10 undergraduate students who were recently awarded grants to support research projects ranging from studying the wetlands of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore to improving health equity in Central America.
Pietrzak, a junior meteorology major, will spend a month in Japan this summer studying the effects of air pollution generated in China on Japan's air quality in collaboration with a Valpo faculty member. The grants were awarded by Valpo's Creative Work and Research Committee (valpo.edu/cwrc) to support and help foster a climate of systematic inquiry and teaching excellence on campus through the support of research and creative work and faculty-student collaboration on projects.
Pietrzak is the son of Ted and Janet Pietrzak of Edwardsburg.
Savannah College
SAVANNAH, Ga. -Whitney Sharpe of Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, has again this quarter been awarded to the Honor Roll on the Dean's list at Savannah College of Art &Design in Savannah, Ga. In addition to being on the list every quarter for the past 12 and still running … a total of three years, she has just been accepted to participate in the off campus Fall 2009 quarter of Savannah College of Art &Design (SCAD) in Lactose, France.
Albion College
ALBION -William Loux has been named to the Albion College dean's list for the spring 2009 semester
Students named to the Dean's List must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above at the completion of the semester. This GPA must be based on at least three units in graded courses and a minimum of four units completed.
William Loux is a senior majoring in economics and management, with a concentration in the Gerstacker Liberal Arts Program in Professional Management. He is the son of William and Susan Loux of Cassopolis and a graduate of Ross Beatty High School.
