Russell Joseph Swanson / 1917-2009

Russell Joseph Swanson, alias Buzz, Bus, Buster, Russ, Swede, 92, passed away peacefully at Whispering Pines Home in Adamsville, Friday morning, July 17, 2009.

Visitation will be at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St. (US 12) Edwardsburg, on Monday, July 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.

A service of remembrance will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the funeral home, with the

Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, officiating.
Entombment will be at Riverview Cemetery, LaSalle Mausoleum, 2257 Portage, South Bend, Ind. There will be military rites by the United States Army Honor Guard.

He was born on July 1, 1917, in Bay City, to the late Flossie and Charles Swanson (LaFevre).

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Euleta Mae; a sister, Patricia and brothers, Wayne and Gerald.

He married Euleta Mae Louderback, who died July 16, 1991.

He is survived by his children, three daughters, Joyce (Eddie) Wright, Deanna (Fred Young) Krupp and Euleta Kay Bloom; seven grandchildren, Mike Osler,, Dan Parsons, Todd Parsons, Kelly Nelson, Lisa Bloom, Debra Harbison, Leslie Bloom; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He grew up and went to school in Niles. He spent his childhood walking the countryside with his dog, hunting rabbits the daylong.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing an he was an enthusiast of the great wide open. He was a member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club.

He was a lifetime employee of the Bendix Corp., retiring in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army and was a member of Edwardsburg American Legion Post No. 354, having served as commander of the post.

The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Gabriella and her staff at Whispering Pines, for taking such loving care of their father and grandfather.

He will be greatly missed. His infectious smile and ornery manner filled our lives with warmth and laughter. He knew how to tell an excellent story.
