Program to feature Prisoners of War

BERRIEN SPRINGS – “Kreigies”: Prisoners of War in Berrien County continues the “Thursdays at the Museum program series at the History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs. Emily Foster and museum curator Bob Myers will present the program tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the History Center (1839 Courthouse Museum) at 313 N. Cass St. in Berrien Springs. Admission is free.
Thousands of German prisoners of war came to Michigan after their capture in North Africa and Europe. Many of the POWs lived in local camps and worked on area farms during the war. Bob Myers will provide a historical background to the POW camps, and Emily Foster will share her memories of the men who worked on her family’s fruit farm near Berrien Center in 1943-1945.
