Niles All-Stars reach semifinals of districts

The Niles Junior Baseball All-Stars advanced to the semifinals of the Michigan Little League District 15 tournament Wednesday night with a 1-0 win over visiting Schoolcraft.
Niles will now advance to the semifinals at Swan Park in Schoolcraft on Friday at 6 p.m.
Niles will face either Schoolcraft or Three Rivers.
Three Rivers edged Vicksburg 11-10 in the consolation quarterfinals.
Niles scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning when Evan Hartman tripled and Alex Erwin drove him in.
Hartman had Niles’ lone hit of the contest against Jacob Politowicz, who struck out three and walked four.
Chris Mangus pitched six inning, tossing a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Joel Blodgett and Matt Abel had the two hits for Schoolcraft.
Tonight, the 10-11 All-Star districts will begin with Dowagiac taking on Coldwater at 6 p.m.
The winner will take on host Mattawan on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Niles will host an 11-12 consolation bracket contest tonight at 6 and the championship semifinala at 8 p.m. at F.O.P. Park.
No results were available at press time from the Niles-Mattawan or the Dowagiac-Vicksburg consolation contests from Wednesday night.
The Niles Senior Baseball All-Stars are also back in action tonight against Vicksburg at Constantine.
The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
The winner will advance to the semifinals on July 21 at 8 p.m. down at Thomas Stadium, while the loser will face Constantine on Saturday at 11 a.m.
