BENTON HARBOR – The Howard Township 12-year-old All-Star team captured the Cal Ripken State Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon.
The All-Stars did not drop a game in claiming one of four state championships for Howard Township teams.
Also winning state titles were the 9-year-olds, the 10-year-olds and the 11-year-olds.
Add to that, the fact that the 13-year-old All-Stars won their BPA tournament in Lansing and it was a great weekend for the local teams.
Howard Township reached the championship game of the tournament with a 10-0 win over Huron Valley on Friday night and then an 11-1 victory over host Benton Harbor on Saturday.
After wading through the consolation bracket, the Tigers of Benton Harbor got another crack at Howard Township.
That didn’t work out any better for the Tigers as they were defeated by Howard Township 21-1.
The All-Stars outscored their opponents 42-2 en route to the victory.
Howard Township will now set its sights on the Ohio Valley Regional, which will be staged in Lexington, Ky., beginning July 23.

Car Wash
The All-Stars will be holding a car wash on Saturday at Advance Auto (across from Walgreens) beginning at noon to help raise money to off-set the cost of the trip.
Donations are welcome.
