On Monday, July 6, at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff Department's Narcotics Unit were conducting surveillance in the Township of Niles after the deputies received information that Tremain Lamond Smith, 30, 109 S. Gladstone Ave. South Bend, Ind., was in possession of a quantity of illegal narcotics.
At approximately 5:35 p.m. Monday, the deputies observed Smith traveling south-bound on S. 11th Street in a vehicle.
The deputies then requested assistance from the Berrien County Sheriff Department's Road Patrol and a traffic stop was effected on the vehicle, which was occupied by Smith on S. 11th Street near Ontario Road in Niles Township of Niles.
During a search of this vehicle, the deputies located and seized approximately $800 worth of marijuana.
Smith was then placed under arrest on a charge of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and he was lodged at the Berrien County Jail on this charge pending his arraignment in the Berrien County Trial Courts.
